Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck

Mini Tummy Tuck

For many people, there comes a time when diet and exercise are no longer an effective means of tightening and toning the abdomen. For whatever reason, some people experience a plateau in their weight loss journey that is not easily overcome. One type of surgery, however, removes the obstacle blocking the realization of your aesthetic goals. At Reflections Skin & Laser Center in Cartersville, GA we are proud to offer both tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck, two of the most effective slimming surgeries available to patients.

What Is Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck are easily one of the more recognizable surgical procedures around. If you are looking for a way to slim down and tone your abdomen, then a tummy tuck might have been one of the first treatments to come to mind. Both tummy tucks address body concerns on the abdomen such as:

  • Excess skin
  • Unwanted fat
  • Loose muscles

Both a tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck are usually used to correct abdomen-related appearance concerns, particularly after weight loss or pregnancy. Each surgery is capable of tightening looks muscles that have been stretched, eliminating mild to moderate amounts of excess fat, and removing excess skin, including skin that has grown lax as a result of aging.

What Are the Main Differences?

Although each of these procedures is similar, there are a few differences that may determine the surgery that is ideal for your concerns and appearance goals. To start, a mini tummy tuck is intended for mild concerns, while a full tummy tuck is intended to address more pronounced concerns. A mini tummy tuck also involves fewer and smaller incisions, making it less invasive than a full tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck x is also sometimes used to maintain the results of a full Henderson tummy tuck several years after the initial surgery.

How Do These Surgeries Work?

The approach to these surgeries involves multiple steps, beginning with the administration of general anesthesia that will sedate you for the duration of the surgery. Other steps include:

Step One: Incision

Although each incision for a tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck is made on the same areas of the body, typically above the pubic bone, between the hips, and beneath the belly button, the shape and length of these incisions will be determined by the amount of work that needs to be completed.

For example, if there is a greater amount of tissue that needs to be removed, the incision itself will also be wider. For a mini tummy tuck, the main incision is generally made near the belly button; for a full tummy tuck, the main incision will be horizontal between the hips.

Step Two: Lift and Tighten

The incisions act like windows to give your surgeon access to the abdominal tissues, which will be pulled tighter and lifted into a tighter position after muscles have been tightened and excess fat has been removed.

Step Three: Close Incisions

After the work outlined in your treatment plan has been completed, the incisions will be closed with sutures or surgical glue. The incisions will then be bandaged. A full laser tummy tuck can take 1 to 5 hours to complete, while a mini tummy tuck may only take 2 or 3 hours.

Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck FAQ

1. What Can You Expect Before and After Treatment?

Consultation

A consultation will be required to determine your eligibility for either surgery and to outline your treatment plan. Your consultation will include discussing your expectations and goals for treatments, as well as examining the condition of your abdomen, particularly the amount of excess skin and fat that is present. We will also go over your lifestyle habits and your general medical history, including any drug allergies you have or any cosmetic treatments for body contouring you have previously had.

Pre-Procedure Guidelines

You will be given a list of pre-procedure guidelines to help you prepare for surgery. Please follow all directions carefully to ensure your surgery is successful. Some pre-procedure guidelines may include:

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Discontinue taking blood-thinning medications
  • Do not take certain supplements

Because this is a surgery you will need to arrange for transportation after your procedure is complete as you will be unable to drive yourself home.

Post-Procedure Guidelines

After your surgery, you will be given a list of post-procedure guidelines to guide you through your recovery period. It’s important to follow these directions to minimize your discomfort and ensure you heal well from your treatment. Some post-procedure guidelines may include:

  • Avoid strenuous activities
  • Engage in light exercise such as walking
  • Do not drink alcohol
  • Drink plenty of water, at least 48 oz
  • Take prescribed medications
  • Regularly clean and change bandages
  • Avoid exposure to excessive heat, such as hot tubs and saunas
  • Avoid direct sunlight on surgical site

We may provide you with additional directions, such as advice on how you can sleep and how to bathe without damaging the surgical tape over your incision site.

Recovery

Both a tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck will require significant recovery periods, although a mini tummy tuck will require less time. On average, most patients are recovered 4 to 8 weeks, which is when you can resume most normal daily activities including work, moderate exercise, and sexual activity.

Your recovery will involve wearing a surgical garment that is meant to be worn continually for the next 6 weeks after your surgery. You are encouraged to walk around every day to help in recovery, although you may want to avoid using the stairs if possible.

2. When Can You See Results?

It will take several weeks for you to see the final results of this procedure. For most patients, you will be able to see final results 3 to 6 months after treatment. You may be able to see some initial results after 10 to 12 weeks, which will include a tighter abdomen with a slimmer overall body shape.

3. How Long Do Results Last?

Results for both of these procedures can last a lifetime. The majority of patients can expect to enjoy permanent results from these treatments, provided care is taken to maintain results.

4. Why Should You Consider These Procedures?

There are plenty of reasons patients consider either a tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. For example, some may seek these treatments in order to fit better into clothing or to have better body confidence. However, there are two main reasons why people have these surgeries; slimming down after weight loss and slimming down after pregnancy.

Extreme weight loss often results in loose or excess skin on the abdomen. Pregnancy and childbirth cause the muscles of the abdomen to stretch, and after a woman has recovered from pregnancy, this can result in loose muscles and excess skin. Pregnancy may also cause weight gain, particularly with fat around the mid-section, which can be difficult to lose after childbirth.

5. Is There a Medical Reason to Have This Surgery?

No. Both a tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck are elective cosmetic procedures, which means there are no medical reasons to have these surgeries.

6. How Can You Preserve Results?

There are several ways you can preserve the results of these procedures. Maintaining the results of a tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck involves keeping a close eye on your body shape, which can be done by monitoring three areas; your lifestyle habits, your weight management efforts, and your family planning.

Lifestyle Habits

Your lifestyle habits include things like light sleep, stress, and recreational substance use, such as alcohol. Each of these factors can make it easier to gain weight, particularly fat in the mid-section of the body. Limiting the amount of stress you have through relaxation techniques, ensuring you have a regular sleep cycle, and drinking in moderation will help reduce the amount of weight you can gain back.

Weight Management

Your weight management efforts refer to your diet and exercise. If you want to maintain results, then it is best to not gain a significant amount of weight. The easiest way to prevent that is by having a regular exercise routine, especially cardio exercise that burns fat more efficiently than other exercises, as well as eating a healthy and balanced diet.

Family Planning

Your family planning is also a factor in maintaining your results, particularly if you are a woman, as pregnancy will undo the results of this surgery.

7. Can You Enhance Results?

Yes! There are many ways you can enhance the results of this treatment. For example, non-surgical cosmetic treatments to contour the body, reduce fat, and tighten skin can all enhance the results of your treatment. These treatments can be safely done after you are fully recovered from your surgery.

8. Is It Possible to Add Other Procedures?

Yes. In fact, it’s common for other cosmetic procedures to be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck. Breast augmentation, butt lifts, liposuction on other areas of the body, and facelifts are all common procedures that can be added on to this one. Combining your procedures for one time will enable you to recover faster in the long run.

9. How Many Sizes Could You Lose?

On average, most women lose about 2 to 3 pant sizes after a tummy tuck. For men, losing 1 or 2 waist sizes is common. Of course, the number of sizes you lose will also depend on how much work is being done and how well you maintain results. Some patients lose more than 3 pant sizes.

10.  Is There a Best Time for This Procedure?

Yes. The best time to have this procedure is at least 6 months before any significant life events, or before swimsuit season. The timing of this procedure is important to ensure that you have adequate time to recover before your event. If you are a woman, it’s best to wait to have this procedure until you are no longer planning on becoming pregnant.

11. Are You a Good Candidate?

The majority of adult patients healthy enough for surgery with general anesthesia are qualified for either of these treatments. Qualification is sometimes determined by the amount of fat and excess tissue that needs to be eliminated. You may be a good candidate for this treatment if you would like to:

  • Reduce belly fat
  • Tighten loose skin
  • Tone abdominal muscles
  • Slim body shape
  • Feel more confident

Tone Up With Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck

One of the most trusted cosmetic procedures is a tummy tuck, which can correct the shape and flatness of the abdomen. A mini tummy tuck is ideal for patients who have milder concerns, such as tightening loose muscles on the stomach. Both a tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck can be used to perfect the shape of the body.

I had such a great experience with the staff at Reflections. All were very kind, light hearted, and welcoming. Dr. Gusching also has a very welcoming vibe to him as well and you can tell he genuinely cares about his patients and what’s best for them. It’s over a 3 hour drive for me but his work is worth the drive. If you are in the area or not in the area, give them a call. You will not be sorry that you did!
